Athabasca Glacier in the Jasper Icefields Parkway.
Got in a little bit of trouble taking this shot - I failed to notice to the right (just out of the frame) a "No Stopping" sign. Where I stopped to take this photo is a private driveway into a supply depot for National Parks personal. AND of course just at that moment one happened to come by. A few four letter words were said to me as he squeezed by.... opps!
When I was young, my family went to Jasper, spent several nights there, [it used to be for a long time the furthest north I'd been] and we spent time at Athabasca falls, and and with the glaciers in the national park.
This photo is awesome, and brings back really good childhood memories. Thanks!
I probably have a really poor version of a film photo of this same thing.
Hehehe I expect I have several bad film photo's of the same thing too.
I kept trying this year to get to Athabasca falls - but either the sun was in the wrong position (I never did make it for the time of day I was aiming for) or the one time it would of been ok there were just too many people and I just couldn't get a clean picture. Jasper is only a 3.5 hour drive from here, so next year I will again set my sights on Athabasca falls. I think I may actually take one of the glacier tours as well, haven't done that since I was a kid.
